January 2009 “Not the ticket” at Bedford Train Station
Queues at Bedford train station are about to get longer following cuts to staffing hours. Worse, if you try the ticket machines you may find your ticket choice unlisted.
Despite increased fares and long queues in the mornings, a cut of seventeen hours per week for staffing the ticket office have been announced.
Last Monday, Conservative Parliamentary Candidate, Richard Fuller, who was travelling to Manchester saw a long queue for the ticket agents, so opted for the ticket machine, but could not find the fare he had just checked for online.
“The machine listed fares for the wrong route and for far more expensive options than should have been available. When I boarded the train, the conductor rolled his eyes and said he was always having this problem with passengers from Bedford. I am concerned that the proposed cuts to staffing hours in Bedford will not only mean longer queues but also to more people being charged more than they should be by the ticket machines.”

January 2009 Fuller -
A recent change for Bedfordshire Pilgrims Housing Association (BPHA) tenants which has ended free of charge to repairs to windows and walls damaged as a result of criminal activity, has been met with fury by Richard Fuller.
Richard met with local resident, Mrs Bernadette Ramsarran (pictured), who is unhappy with the changes.
Richard commented: “People should be responsible for the upkeep of their homes, but the BPHA also has a duty of care to its residents. This decision, which means that low income families now have to pay to repair criminally damaged walls and windows, is wrong.”
Richard was shocked to learn that an elderly resident in the Harpur area would have to pay to have her garden wall rebuilt after it had been knocked down by vandals. “The BPHA sent people round to collect the bricks but told her she would have to arrange and pay for the reconstruction of the wall.
“These types of repairs are expensive and unaffordable to those who are being forced
to pay for them and may lead to disrepair and the unnecessary decay of neighbourhoods.

Conservatives Launch Unitary Campaign with Tax and Crime Pledges
Cllr Jane Walker and Cllr Roger Rigby today launched the Conservative campaign to
gain control of the new Unitary Council.
“Conservatives will campaign on tightly controlling
Council tax with the goal of freezing Council tax and reducing it over a four year
term,” said Jane Walker. “People are really feeling the pinch and it is likely to
get worse. People can be confident that the Conservatives will campaign for lower
taxes to help them through these difficult times.”
Roger Rigby said that crime was
the other key issue for local residents.
“People in rural areas are concerned at
the absence of police cover, and people in the town are fed up with what they regard
as a lax approach to the control of drugs and the disorder from binge drinking.
Conservatives will want to work with the police to develop a tougher set of policies
that meet these concerns and produce a reduction in crime that people will really
notice.”
De Parys Residents Give Thumbs Up to Robert
De Parys residents have welcomed the news that community campaigner, Robert Rigby will stand as the Conservative candidate for the local elections on 4th June 2009. Residents were quick to endorse Robert and the Conservative pledge to freeze council tax for two years.
Robert Rigby said, People are really feeling the pinch and it is likely to get worse. People can be confident that the Conservatives will campaign for lower taxes to help them through these difficult times."
Richard Fuller, Parliamentary candidate for Bedford and Kempston said, “We want to show the people of De Parys that the Conservatives have policies that offer hope for their future and that we are committed to this area 100%."

Conservative Party Chairman, Eric Pickles visits Bedford
Party Chairman Eric Pickles MP, visited Bedford recently. He toured the town centre with Richard Fuller and listened to concerns of local residents about the high levels of crime, particularly violent crime, in the Midland Road area.
Eric met with a local Pastor and with members of the local mosque.
Afterwards, Eric addressed Conservative candidates for the local council elections in June and urged them to campaign forcefully on the need for change.
